I hold a Ph.D. in Linguistics from the University of Geneva (January 2026).
I am a Lecturer in the Department of Linguistics at the University of Geneva.
My research is in theoretical syntax, with a particular specialization in the syntax of Semitic languages. My work focuses primarily on Tigrinya, a Semitic language spoken in Eritrea and Ethiopia. I investigate a range of syntactic phenomena, including relative clauses, complement clauses, adverbial clauses, negation, modality, verum focus, and polarity particles.
I am also a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Psychology & Speech Therapy Research Unit at the University of Geneva. I work on the SNSF-funded project "First language acquisition and foreign language learning in French-speaking children with DLD: Targeting grammar through explicit intervention", led by Hélène Delage.
My name is pronounced [ˈdʒɔ.ja ka.ˈk:jɔ.li ].
